The well-documented Clement genealogy (1927) says he probably d. Thornton, Grafton Co., NH 20 Sep 1830, but I cannot confirm this as he does not appear there after 1810. There is no census for Grafton Co., NH in 1820, but in the 1830 census for Thornton, Simeon is the only Clement, and neither Henry nor Mary appear. There is a Henry Clement living in Quebec, Canada in 1825. If Henry died in Canada, he is nevertheless likely buried here in Thornton with his wife. Henry married (1) in Methuen, Mass. 15 Oct 1772 Hannah EMERSON, baptized at Salem, NH 30 Sep 1750, d. Weare, NH 17 Dec 1795, likely the daughter of Josiah Emerson and Abigail Messer. Henry m. (2) Ipswich, Mass 20 Oct 1796 Mary TREADWELL who d. Thornton, NH 21 Oct 1825, probably the daughter of Capt Jabez Treadwell and Elizabeth Burnham. Henry was called of Weare in his 1772 marriage record, and was of Weare in the 1790 census, but lived in Dunbarton, NH the first five years of his marriage, where his brother James was a prominent man. He bought land in Thornton, NH on 24 May 1799, and settled there soon thereafter. In 1800 and 1810 he was in the Grafton Co., NH censuses. Henry was a soldier during the American Revolutionary War, and served a number of times. He was a private in Capt Timothy Clement's company, Col David Gilman's regiment in April 1776, and a private in Capt William Stilson's company, Col Isaac Wyman's regment, Northern Continental Army on a roll dated 4 July 1776. He was also a private in Capt William Lee's company, Col Moses Kelly's regiment during the expedition to Rhode Island, enlisting 6 Aug 1778 and being discharged three weeks later on 27 August. Online accounts give the parentage of first wife, Hannah Emerson, as being Samuel Emerson and Sarah Ayer. This is incorrect. This couple had two daughters named Hannah, both of whom died as children. Being married in Methuen, Hannah was certainly from a Methuen Emerson family. There were four such families in the town with children about Hannah's age; they were the families of Joshua, William, Reuben, and Josiah Emerson, all four of whom were brothers, and sons of Joshua Emerson and Mary Clark. All four of these families are well documented in Pope's "Emersons of Haverhill, Mass." and of the four, only one had a child Hannah, and that was Josiah. This Hannah was baptized in neighboring Salem, NH in 1750, and is most likely the wife of Henry Clement. Children of Henry and Hannah, births recorded in both Dunbarton and Weare: * Susannah b. Dunbarton 16 Oct 1773, d. Goffstown, NH 10 March 1854, m. Goffstown 29 April 1802 Elijah CHUBBUCK, b. Goffstown 13 Jan 1777, baptized Abington, Mass. 19 Jan 1777, d. Manchester, NH 4 Oct 1861, the son of Ensign Chubbuck and Anna/Hannah Ramsdell. Elijah appears with wife and two younger females on the 1840 census in Thornton, NH, and is there again in 1850, aged 73, with wife Susanna, aged 77 and Samel Sargent, aged 19 [a nephew?]. In 1860 Elijah was living in Goffstown, aged 84, with what appear to be a group of unrelated people, so he may have been in a home of sorts. Elijah's death record states that he is buried in Manchester. Susannah and Elijah had five children, born 1803 to 1819, named in the Clement genealogy (1927). * Hannah, b. Dunbarton 10 Oct 1775, m. _______ SARGENT of Goffstown per the published Clement genealogy (1927), but records are lacking. * Abigail, b. Weare 22 Aug 1777, d. Dunbarton, NH 5 March 1865, m. (1) Weare, NH 22 Nov 1804 Matthew STEVENS; m. (2) Goffstown, NH 30 Nov 1837 Daniel SARGENT. * Sarah, b. Weare 20 July 1779. A Sarah Clement d. Caledonia Co., VT Feb 1850, aged 71, but the Clement genealogy says she m. _________ STEVENS, possbily confusing her with her sister Abigail. I find it interesting that the Clement genealogy says Sarah married a Stevens, while her sister Hannah married a Sargent. In actuality, their sister Abigail married a Stevens and then a Sargent. Because of the total lack of records on Hannah and Sarah, I suspect that both of them died young, or else did not marry. * Simeon, b. Weare 2 July 1781, d. Thornton, NH 28 April 1851, m. in Campton, Grafton, NH by Rev. Peletiah Chapin on 25 June 1806 to Susannah BRAINARD, b. Campton, NH 2 Sep 1781, d. Thornton 19 April 1864, daughter of Chiliab-4 Brainard (Josiah-3, William-2, Daniel-1). Simeon appears on the 1810, 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses for Thornton, NH. The 1820 census does not exist for that town. In 1850, Simeon and Susannah appears with presumed daughters (twins?) Hannah and Emeline, both aged 24, and presumed grandson, Albert H., aged 6. Simeon and Susannah had nine children and are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Thornton. * Samuel Watts, b. Weare 22 June 1783, d. Boxford, Mass. 30 Aug 1855, m. Boxford 24 Oct 1811 Sally COLE, b. Boxford 24 Aug 1787, d. Boxford 2 Dec 1877, daughter of Simeon Cole and Polly Smith. They are buried in the Brookside Cem., West Boxford. * Henry, b. Weare 2 May 1789, d. Boxford, Mass 13 Dec 1843, m. Haverhill, Mass. 12 Jan 1812 Hannah (RUNNELS) Cole, b. Haverhill, Mass. 12 July 1787, d. Boylston, Mass 1 Oct 1864, the daughter of Ebenezer Runnels and Hannah Smith. Hannah had married first in Haverhill 9 March 1806 Benjamin Cole, who "drowned with 5 other persons" 24 May 1807, per the Haverhill records. Henry's intention in Salem 19 Oct 1811 was with the widow Hannah Cole. He appears on the 1830 census in Boxford. He is buried in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Boxford, while Hannah is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Boylston, Mass. Children with second wife, Mary: * Matilda, b. Weare, NH 1797, d. Woodstock, NH c. 1875, and m. Thornton, NH 15 Nov 1816 Daniel SELLINGHAM, b. NH 1794, living in 1880, the son of Jacob Sellingham and Hannah Torrey. Matilda and Daniel lived in Woodstock (Grafton Co.), NH where they appear on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 federal censuses, and in 1850 with four children. Matilda had died by 1880 when Daniel appears on the Woodstock census as a widower, aged 86, living with "nephew" [grandson?] Andrew J. Sellingham, aged 24. Daniel was a soldier in the War of 1812. * Jabish Treadwell, b. likely in Weare, NH 1799, living in 1866, m. Luria (or Luvia, which looks identical in cursive) PERCIVAL. He is likely the Jabish T. Clement appointed as Postmaster in Wonewoc, Adams Co., Wisconsin on 7 Feb 1856, and was a millwright living in Alameda, California in 1866, aged 67. They had a son, Wesley Burnham Clement, who m. 20 Sep 1862 Eliza Webb, b. 25 Nov 1822, daughter of Benjamin Webb and Catharine Jackson. Another Jabish T. Clement was likely their son, b. c. 1837, d. Portland, OR 22 April 1874, who with his brother R. Paul Clement had a law partnership in Alameda. * Walter, b. Thornton, NH 1802, d. Wapello Co., Iowa c. 1869, m. Logan Co., Ohio 22 April 1832 Melinda NEWELL, b. OH 1811, d. Tacoma, WA 8 Feb 1894, daughter of Hugh Newell and Elizabeth McNay (he from PA and she from KY). They lived in Bellefontaine, Ohio (Logan Co.), but in 1841 moved to Muscatine, Iowa, and then in 1843 to Eddyville, IA (Wapello Co.). Walter and Melinda appear on the 1850 federal census in District 13, Wapello Co., Iowa, he aged 47, she 37, and children Mary, 17; Elizabeth, 15; Amanda, 11; Henry M., 9; and Sarah, 1; all b. Ohio except Walter in NH and Sarah in Iowa. They are in the 1860 census in Eddyville, Wapello Co., he 58, she 49, and with daughter Mary, aged 24 and b. Ohio. By 1870 Walter appears to have died, and Malinda is still in Eddyville, aged 58, with daughter Mary, 37, likely daughter Elizabeth Male, aged 32, Mary Male, aged 10, and 4 other boarders. Malinda is buried in the Tacoma Cemetery, Pierce Co., Washington. * Amanda, b. Thornton, NH 9 May 1806, d. Thornton, NH 3 Dec 1876, m. c. 1839 David MERRILL, b. NH 3 June 1813, d. NH 9 March 1894, the son of David Merrill and Dorothy. Amanda and David spent their lives in Thornton, NH. They appear together with other family members on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 federal censuses in Thornton. In 1880 David appears on the Thornton census as a widower. They had five known children, born about 1840 to 1849, named in the 1850 census. Amanda and David share a grave marker in the Elmwood Cemetery in Franconia (Grafton Co.), NH.
