Son of Henry Grimes and Hester Buzzard OBITUARY THE RUSSELL UNION-TRIBUNE Russell, Iowa Wednesday, January 17, 1923 HENRY GRIMES Henry Franklin Grimes was born January 12th, 1840 in Pocahontas county, West Virginia, and died at his home in Cedar township on December 29th, 1922, aged 82 years, 11 months and 17 days. He enlisted as a union soldier in the Civil War on March 1st, 1863, in Company I. 3rd Reg., W. Va. Cavalry, and continued in service until the close of the war. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Dilly on October 21, 1869, and moved to Iowa the following year. To this union was born one son, Henry E. on July 22nd, 1870, who passed away on August 18th, 1870, aged 27 days. The mother preceded in death, having passed away on July 29th, 1870. He was again united in marriage to Mary C. Cain on October 31st, 1872. To this union were born six children, Virgil O., Ira and Franklin E. having gone on before. The living children are Sidney A. of Hemingford, Nebraska, George N. of Melrose, Iowa and Mrs. Stella VanBenthuysen, of Divide, Wyoming. The two sons attended him during his last illness, the daughter being unable to be present. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren, two brothers in West Virginia and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a religious man, having been converted in 1878 and joined the M. E. church at Hickory Point, where he was an active member,serving as Sunday school superintendent for a number of years.
