By faithful attention to duty he has built up a large law practice before the county, district and supreme courts, and of the twenty-nine cases to be tried in the district court of this county he appears as counsel in eighteen of them. The funeral was held from the Baptist church at two o'clock p. m., Sunday, Rev. Bates, Episcopal minister, preaching the sermon, being assisted by the pastors of the Baptisy, Presbyterian and Methodist churches of this city. Mr. Mathew was a member of the Episcopal church, K. of P., A. O. F. W., and L. M. L. A. lodges and the remains were taken in charge by the Knights of Pythias, the pall bearers being knights E. S. Hayhurst, L. N. Smith, Aaron Wall, M. H. Mead, John W. Long and E. A. Brown. A procession was formed at the house by members of the lodges who marched to the church. At the cemetery the Knights marched around the grave and deposited on the casket a blossom. The funeral was largely attended, many being unable to gain admittance to the church, men coming from far and near to pay their last tribute of respect to one they loved. The floral offerings were a wealth of beauty. We deeply feel the loss of our friend and in extending sympathy to the bereaved wife and son we desire to express faith in God and his promises and hope to meet our brother in eternity. OBITUARY Henry Marsch Mathew was born October 30th, 1854, at London, England. He came to Chicago in 1872, and in 1878 settled on a homestead near Lee Park and in 1883 came to Sherman county, purchasing a farm three miles south of this village. On April 2, 1883, he was joined in marriage with Miss Emma L. Clark, of Lee Park, who survives him. To this union was born one son, Robert H. who is a graduate of the Nebraska University law school, and who will take up the work of his father where he laid it down. After disposing of his farm south of this city, Mr. Mathew came to this village entering the law office of J. W. Long and later the law firm of Long & Mathew was disolved [sic] by mutual consent since which time, Mr. Mathew has been engaged in the law practice alone. The Times-Independent - Mar 29 1906
