In early childhood he came with his parents to Lee County, Iowa near Farmington. When almost nine years of age the family came to Scotland County, Missouri and he lived here ever since. He was married to Miss Henrietta Breidenstein at Latty, Iowa. To this union were born two sons and four daughters. One son died in infancy. He raised William Ruth of Burlington, Iowa, also, where he has kept up a very fine attachment to him and the family. About the time of his marriage, he moved to a farm southwest of Arbela where he lived for 50 years. In early life he united with the Etna M. E. Church. He was a faithful member, a regular attendant at the services and a liberal supporter of its interests; and at the time of his death was the senior member of the Church and the official board. His wife preceded him in death nearly 34 years ago. Two grandchildren and one great grandchild have also preceded him. He always enjoyed normal health until about eleven years ago, when he had a severe operation. For the last five years his health gradually failed. He leaves Mrs. Ella Dieterich of Arbela; Mrs. Eliza Dieterich of Wyaconda; Otto Mohr of Arbela; Mrs. Lena Dahlem of Corder, Missouri; Mrs. Lottie Miller of Burlington and the foster son William Ruth of Burlington, 16 grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends who will ever keep him in kind remembrance. With his passing away, the last one of the parental family has gone to join them in the sweet bye and bye. Funeral services were conducted at the Etna M. E. Church on Sunday, November 27, 1931 at 10:30 a.m. by his pastor, Rev. F. G. Hilbers, assisted by Rev. W. A. Dahlem of Corder, Missouri. The pallbearers were his grandsons.
