The Chico Enterprise, Tuesday Evening, December 31, 1935: "Henry S. Bruce Taken by Death: A long, useful career ended last night with the death of Henry Stacey Bruce, 77, who was born in a covered wagon en route to California December 6, 1858. Bruce's parents settled in the Chico district and has since resided here. For 22 years he was employed by the Sierra Lumber company and when it was burned down in 1909, Bruce took up ranching. "He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bruce of Chico; three sons, Jesse Bruce of Chico, Robert and Clifford Bruce of Santa Maria, and the following brothers, and sisters: Mrs. Nancy Margaret Williams, Mrs. Millie Ann Marion, Charles, Nathaniel, and Robert Bruce, all of Chico. Three grandchildren also survive. "Funeral services will be held tomorrow. New Year's day, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Westfall funeral home, the Rev. Harris Pillsbury of the Presbyterian church officiating."
