Was Certified Public Accountant With Large Clientele. Funeral Here On Sunday. Howard L. Sterling, well-known Crisfield man who had been residing in Baltimore for several years, died of pneumonia in the West Baltimore Hospital, that city, at 10:30 o'clock on Thursday morning. The end came after a week's illness, during which double pneumonia developed. News of his death came as a great shock to this community, as it was thought that his condition was improving, although it was realized that Mr. Sterling was dangerously ill. Mr. Sterling was a Crisfield boy, born and reared in the Lawsonia section, and resided here until about eight years ago. After completing his college course, he became associated with the W.C. Muir Lumber Co., and remained with them several years, resigning that position to become General Manger of the Crisfield Ice and Electric Plant. After successfully conducting the business of that big concern for several years, he resigned his position and went to Baltimore, where he engaged in Public Accounting Work. He was one of the best-known Public Accountants in Baltimore, was highly regarded in business circles and had built up a large and profitable clientele among the corporations and business interests of the metropolis. His specialty was the supervision of Income Tax Returns for the bankers, corporations and big business firms of Baltimore, who required expert knowledge and advice. During the few years that Mr. Sterling had resided in Baltimore, he had made a great success of his work, and his future was very promising. Mr. Sterling was 38 years of age, and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Sterling, of the Lawsonia section. He was a widower, his wife, the former Miss Geneva Gibson, having died at their home here several years ago. Mr. Sterling never re-married. Besides his parents, Mr. Sterling is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carlisle Daugherty and four brothers—Messrs. Charles, Granville, Wilmer and Morris Sterling. The remains will be brought to Crisfield this morning, and funeral services will probably be held from the home of his parents, in Lawsonia, tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. Mr. Sterling was a young man of admirable qualities—kind and charitable, big hearted and friendly, with a loyalty that endeared him to everyone who knew him. Not only did he have a large circle of true friends in his home community, but had made many warm personal acquaintances during his residence in Baltimore. This was attested by the kindly treatment accorded him during his last illness, when special nurses and prominent members of the medical profession were rushed to his bedside, and remained there administering to him until the end. In his passing, Crisfield loses a native son who was held in high regard, and whose death is deeply mourned.
