Seamands, in Akron, Iowa, Tuesday Morning, January 28, 1908, Miss Edna Seamands, of pneumonia and implications, aged 21 years, 11 months, and 11 days. After a heroic and unflinching fight covering a period of over four months against a succession of ailments that several times threatened a fatal termination, her wearied body was finally compelled to lay down its burden of suffering-the Death Angel entering upon the wings of the morning and bearing her soul to the beautiful realms of eternal rest and peace. Last September, after returning from a visit at the home of her brother Charles, near Hettinger, North Dakota, where she filed on a homestead, she was taken ill with typhoid fever. At the end of about six weeks she was able to be out of doors and went for short drives; but a slight cold was contracted and she suffered a very severe attack of pleurisy. From this she also apparently recovered, when pneumonia developed. Her constitution, already weakened by the strain of previous illness, was not afforded anything like an equal chance against the serious malady, even aided by the best available medical attention, the administrations of a most competent trained nurse and the untiring care of loved ones. Id Edna Seamands was born February 17, 1886, on the old home farm four miles west of Akron, in Sioux Valley Township, Union County, S.D. About twelve years ago her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Seamands, moved to Akron, and this has since been the family home. She attended the public school and was a member of the Akron high school graduating class of 1902. After leaving school, she was for a long time employed as operator for the Akron telephone exchange and her always prompt and obliging services were greatly appreciated and are pleasantly remembered by patrons of the phone system. Her cheerfulness and kindliness of disposition and her thoughtfulness of others made her friendship sought, retained and richly valued by all who gained her acquaintance, and especially marked were these beautiful attributes during the days of her last illness-always hopeful, cheerful, uncomplaining. With worthy and helpful ambitions, noble and generous impulses, her future held much worth living for. Her untimely taking away brings poignant sorrow to the home circle and great sadness to a host of friends. To those near and dear to her, the community tenders its most sincere sympathy and condolence. Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon and a large concourse of friends there assembled for a last tribute of respect. A splendid sermon was delivered by Rev. H. G. Campbell, of Morningside College, Sioux City, formerly pastor here. The floral offering were many and beautiful. Interment in Riverside cemetery. Business places were closed during the funeral hour.
