Read More	PIONEER WOMAN ANSWERS CALL The sudden summons of Mrs. Ruth Seamands at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Max Pollock, Sunday evening came as a shock to her family and host of friends in this community, where she had resided for nearly sixty years. She had been in her usual health and spirits, attending an Eastern Star social the previous Friday evening and going to church Sunday morning. After supper Sunday she became slightly indisposed, however, and laid down upon a couch. A little later she asked her daughter for a glass of water, and when she sat up to take a drink she suffered a choking spell and passed away soon afterward. Death was due to cerebral hemorrhage. Ruth Randall was born July 27, 1852, in Carroll county, Illinois, and died November 6, 1927, in Akron, Iowa, aged 75 years, 3 months and-10 days. Carroll County, and in 1867 was united in marriage with Manaldo V. Seamands at Maquoketa, Iowa. There came to bless this union five children, three of whom now survive – Charles A. Seamands, of Hettinger, N.D.; Alva L. Seamands and Pearl (Mrs. Max Pollock), of Akron, Ia. Two daughters, Lillian and Edna, preceded their parent in death. In 1868 Mr. and Mrs. Seamands came west and were among the early settlers in Union County, S. D. (then Dakota Territory), filing on a homestead a few miles west of Akron, where they experienced all the privations and hardships of pioneer times. They continued to reside on this place until they decided to retire from the activities of farm life in 1896, when they moved to Akron, and this has been the family home ever since. Mr. Seamands died here June 17, 1916. Mrs. Seamands became a member of the M.E. Church while a resident of Union County, S. D. She was a woman of noble Christian character, a devoted wife and mother and a kind, helpful and sympathetic friend and neighbor. She was for many years an active member of the Eastern Star and W. R. C. organizations of this city. After a brief service at her late home, funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Akron M. E. Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wilson Gow. The member of Vesper chapter, O. E. S., attended the funeral in a body and conducted the beautiful burial service of the order at Riverside cemetery. Chas. A. Seamands came from Hettinger, N. D. to attend his mother funeral.
