Mrs. Horsey had passed her 88th birthday, and was a native of Crisfieild, the daughter of the late Noah and Grace Nelson Tawes, pioneer Somerset citizens, and was the widow of the late I. Purnell Horsey, who started the first garment manufacturing concern in Crisfield. She was one of the best known and most loved matrons in the community, because of the many kind deeds she had performed during her long life. A woman of fine personality, very energetic, she was a great church worker. She had been a member of Immanuel Methodist church for many years, had been president of the Mites Society, now the W S C S, and was prominent in all church affairs giving unstintedly of her time to various church functions and joining with others in raising funds in various ways for church work. There were very few people in the community but who knew 'Miss Ida' as she was affectionately called, respected and liked her for her qualities of warm friendship and eagerness to be of service to her fellows, and they all feel deep sorrow at her passing. Until she entered the hospital in Salisbury she resided at her home on central Main street, which was, before illness caused her to retire from many fine active duties, a center for social and civic affairs. She is survived by one son, Oliver S. Horsey, one brother, Capt. Lorenzo D. Tawes, a grand daughter, Baroness Idella Suetter von Loetzen, and two great grandchildren, all of this city.
