McPheron gathered at Benjamin chapel, Richwoods, for his funeral which was held there at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Their tears, their words of appreciation of his life, their many floral tributes told their love and respect for their old time comrade and neighbor. Pastor Frank Weston of the First Baptist church, Mt. Pleasant, assisted by Rev. Mr. Myers of the Mennonite church, Trenton, conducted the service. The sermon was from John 3:16. Mrs. U. S. G. Williams, Mrs. Bert Jay, Mrs. Andrew Wormhoudt and Mr. Weston, with Mrs. Martin Harshbarger as accompanist, sang "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me," "Above the Bright Blue" and "Shall We Gather at the River?" John and Will Allender, Clark Caulk, Clarence Hite, Arthur DeWein and Roy Seberg carried the remains to their last resting place in the cemetery adjoining the chapel. Isaac N. McPheron, son of John Wesley and Mary Elizabeth (Cook) McPheron, was born in a log cabin on the old homestead one mile south of Trenton, Iowa, July 16, 1852, and passed away November 6, 1931, his entire life being spent in Henry county. On September 15, 1874, he was united in marriage to Stella F. Black who died March 25, 1895. To their union three children were born, one son, Jesse, passed away March 24, 1895. The children remaining are Elmer and Etta with whom he made his home. On February 23, 1898, he and Margaret Allender were joined in wedlock. She died October 4, 1922. Two sisters, Mrs. Melissa Deal, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Black, Carroll, Nebr., remain. One sister, Mrs. Martha Allender, and two brothers, Frank and Alfred McPherron, preceded him in death. Besides numerous nephews and nieces, and countless friends mourn the passing of this good man. Mount Pleasant (IA) News Friday, 6 November 1931 I. McPheron Takes Own Life This Morning ---------- Aged Resident Leaves Note Telling of Intention To Take Life Isaac McPheron living with his son and daughter four and one-half miles northwest of town, took his life this morning about eleven o'clock by hanging. His lifeless body was found by his son hanging to a rafter in the garage, where he had stepped from the running board of his car, within a few minutes it is believed, following Mr. McPheron's deed. In his pocket was found the following note written on the outside of an envelope and self explanatory of the motive for taking his life. "Everybody good bye. Ill health and my life other ways makes life unendurable. No use for inquest as this is intentional." The note was signed I. N. Mc. Mr. McPheron was nearly eighty years old and it is said that he has been melancholy and in poor health since the death of his wife several years ago. His rash deed, however, came as a great shock to his family as they had not suspected that such a thought was in his mind. He is survived by his son, Elmer, and daughter, Etta, both at home.
