Ivan Alfred Stauffer was born April 2, 1919 on a farmhouse near Goehner, Nebraska. In 1921, he moved to a farm near Phillips, Nebraska. He attended the Phillips Consolidated School and graduated salutatorian of his class in June of 1937. In September of that year, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska and attended classes for two semesters. Read More	Ivan Stauffer, former Lakewood resident, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in Houston, Texas. He was 97 years old. Ivan Alfred Stauffer was born April 2, 1919 on a farmhouse near Goehner, Nebraska. In 1921, he moved to a farm near Phillips, Nebraska. He attended the Phillips Consolidated School and graduated salutatorian of his class in June of 1937. In September of that year, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska and attended classes for two semesters. After working at a dairy farm for a few months, Ivan accepted a position with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. There he met and married Dorothy Wright August 31, 1941. On December 26, 1942, he was inducted into the US Army and assigned to the 259th Ordinance Battalion Headquarters. In April of 1944, he was sent overseas and saw combat duty in New Guinea and the Philippines. He later served as part of the Allied occupation forces in Nagoya, Japan. After the war, he returned home to Nebraska where he worked for the War Assets Administration to certify veterans for purchase of war surplus. Later, he worked at a tractor and implement company as the business dealer manager. In 1956, he moved with his family to Roswell, New Mexico where he began working for the US Geological Survey and was soon promoted to Administrative Assistant. In 1973, Ivan was promoted to Administrative Officer and transferred to the Denver Federal Center. He retired from the Federal Government with 32½ years service on February 29, 1980. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents John Stauffer and Edith Pratt Stauffer, three sisters, Violet Shonkwiler, Eunice Gyger, and Betty Inness and one brother, Glenn Stauffer. He is survived by his three sons, Kent of Kenner, Louisiana, Mike of Taos, New Mexico, and Rick of Houston, Texas, daughter-in-law Sandy, and grandchildren, Laura Stauffer of Portland, Oregon, Matthew Stauffer of Kenner, Louisiana, Christy Young and Chere' Morgan of Ohio. He will be remembered by family and friends as a loving father and husband, proud patriot, US Army veteran, avid golfer and bowler, excellent singer, and master of ceremonies.
