Vink son of Cornelia and Lanebatus Vink, who came from Holland, was born at Gary, Ind. 1899 the family came to Edgeley, where they bought a farm. In the summer of 1900 Jake worked on Sykes ranch near Alfred. In April 1901 he helped his folks put in their crop and then went back to work at the ranch that following summer.Later he worked for E. J. Murphy until the fall of 1904. He contested a claim 1/2 mile north of Jud. The winter of 1904 and 1905 he worked for Ed Withnell and carried mail from Floyd to Edgeley. In the spring of 1905 he bought horses and machinery and moved out to his homestead. He put in a crop of flax. The grade for the N. P. railroad from Edgeley to Streeter was built and the rails were laid that summer. In 1905 Jacob Vink and Alice Withnell were married. Mrs. Vink was the daughter of Ann and Edward Withnell and was born in Astley Bridge Bolton, Lancashine, England on Nov. 6, 1883. She came to Jamestown in the spring of 1885. Here they made their home until the spring of 1899 when they moved to a farm about three miles west of where Nortonville is now located. She taught school from 1901 to 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Vink lived on their homestead and farmed until Oct. 1931 when they moved to Jud. They had two fires and lost two barns, horses, grain etc. Three children were born to them on the farm; Cornelia Ann (Mrs. Walter Jahn) Jud, Harold Bertram of Portland Oreg., and Isabella (Mrs. Ferdinand (Pat) Stroh) of the Dalles, Oregon.
