Read More	The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 18 Nov 1936 Old Time Resident Answers Final Call The grim reaper has claimed another pioneer resident of this city when death called James Bartley at Great Falls on Tuesday morning of this week. Mr. Bartley had been in poor health for the past couple years and for several months had been seriously sick. The announcement of his death came as a great shock to his many old time friends in this city where he had resided for more than half a century. James Bartley was born in Ireland on May 9, 1855, and came to the United States and to this city in 1880 and has since resided in or near this city. He was 81 years, 6 months and 8 days of age. For the past five or six years he has resided in Great Falls, where two of his sons live. After coming to Fort Benton in 1880, he worked for a time for a brick manufacturing company and then accepted a position with Jere Sullivan, who was then conducting the Chouteau House. He later engaged in ranching and other pursuits and was appointed postmaster of this city in Sept. 1914, a position he held until 1923, when he retired from active work. He was united in marriage in 1889, Mrs. Bartley passing away in 1906. To this union five sons were born, all of whom survive him; Joseph and James of Great Falls; Charles and Frank of Bynum; and John, who resides in New York City. Mr. Bartley played a prominent part in the early development of Fort Benton and Chouteau county and was well and favorably known throughout the county as a man of integrity and high character. His passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends not only in this county but throughout the state. Funeral services will be held in Fort Benton on Thursday morning at the Catholic church at 10 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Fr. Csiscman. Burial will be made in Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their loss of a kind and loving father, and in his passing the state has lost a devoted friend. --- Parents: Michael Bartley, b.
