Burns, who had been in failing health for some time, passed away at his rooms in the property of Mrs. Lizzie Burch on North Fourth street at five o'clock Friday morning, January 22nd, 1915, aged thirty-four years, nine months and one day. James Francis Burns, oldest son of D.C. and Emma Burns, was born in Eddyville on April 21st, 1880, and the greater part of his life had been spent at this place. James Francis Burns, oldest son of D.C. and Emma Burns, was born in Eddyville on April 21st, 1880, and the greater part of his life had been spent at this place. After graduating from the Eddyville high school with the Class of 1897 he took up pharmacy and first became a registered pharmacist while employed in G.E. Stephenson's drug store. In October, 1903, he went west and secured, employment at his profession; becoming a registered pharmacist in the states of Colorado and Idaho. He was enjoying good health when he first went west but located in too high an altitude, and about six years ago his health began to fail. Since then he had traveled considerably for his health, spending a portion of his time in the southwest, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and also making three trips to the pine regions of Minnesota, but continuing his occupation so long as his health would permit. Returning from Park Rapids, Minnesota, last autumn, he had steadily declined in health till death relieved his sufferings. He had hoped to be able to go south next spring and locate permanently in the southwest and he put up a brave fight, but the dark angel put an end to the hopes of this promising young man. Fraternally he was a member of Eddyville Lodge No. 74 A.F. and A.M., the Eastern Stars and the Knights Templar, holding his membership at Idaho Springs, Colorado. On December 16th last, he was received into the Congregational church and on Monday of last week the sacrament of the Lord's supper was at his request, administered to him by the Pastor J.L. Jones and Deacon David Moran. His mother died a number of years ago. Members of his family who survive are his father; one brother H.S. Burns, one of, Eddyvilles' enterprising young businessmen; and one sister Grace, wife of D.E. Ward of Madrid. The funeral services, which were largely, attended by sorrowing friends and relatives, was held at the Congregational church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the pastor Rev. J.L. Jones officiating. Evangelist, Miss Bessie Franc Brown, who recently closed revivals at this place, was present and sang a beautiful solo. The funeral was conducted under the auspices of the Masonic order, and after the services were over the remains were tenderly consigned to their last resting place in the family lot in Highland cemetery. Frank was well known in and around Eddyville and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.
