Cleaver Dies After Several Weeks Illness James Harry Cleaver, son of Mary and David Cleaver, was born at Casey, Illinois, June 28, 1867, and died at his home April 5, 1952. At the age of one year he and his parents moved to a farm near Minneapolis, in Ottawa county, where he grew to manhood. In 1898 he married Alice Emma Palmer at Glasco, Kansas. They have lived here most of their married life, and celebrated their golden wedding here Dec. 1, 1948. Jim, as he was known by his friends, has always been an ardent worker in the Methodist church, particularly showing interest in the church choir. He was active in community work and was a member of the IOOF Lodge, and the Masonic lodge, Order of Eastern Star, and the Knight Commandery at Beloit, Kansas. He was postmaster at Glasco from 1913 to 1915. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alice Emma, of the home; their adopted daughter, Beth Felt, of Salina, Kans.; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie White, Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. William Slater, Cody, Wyo.; one brother, Charles Cleaver, Kansas City, Mo., and an adopted sister, Lillian Cleaver Young, of Winfield, Kans.; one granddaughter, Mary Felt of Salina, Kans.; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Glasco at 2:00 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, April 8th, conducted by the Rev. W.E. Cassell. A male quartet sang. Pallbearers were Eli Pinney, Edmund Horn, Walter Sheets, Joe Sheets, Roy Brown, and Fred Harper. Flower bearers were Mrs. Fred Harper and Mrs. E.V. Plush. Interment was in the Glasco cemetery with the McDonald Funeral home in charge.
