(Little) Palmer, was born January 24, 1875, in Illinois. Sge passed away February 18, 1960, at the Wayne Nursing Home in Washington, Kansas. She came here to Glasco, Kansas, from Illinois, with her family, in 1879, when she was four years old. She always attended Sunday School and Church and, when she grew older, sang in the choir and taught a Sunday School class, always doing what she could. On December 1, 1898, she was united in marriage with James H. Cleaver. Shortly afterwards, she and her husband united with the Glasco Methodist Church and both were active and faithful members. Mr. Cleaver passed away April 5, 1952. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver moved to Gypsum, Kansas, but returned to Glasco after a short time and spent the remainder of their lives in this community. Mrs. Cleaver and Anna Bates organized the Cradle Roll of the Glasco Methodist Sunday School in May, 1906. Some of the first children enrolled were Sylvia Archer, Madeline Newton, Marjorie Bernard, Margaret and Fred Harper, George Rogers, and Mary Sutton. This organization grew and became very popular, children from all the various churches of the community being enrolled, and as the children graduated they were each given a Bible; they then joined the Sunday School of their choice. During the first year, 21 Bibles were given. Alice was president of the Missionary Society and worked faithfully in it for many years. Her husband was Sunday School Superintendent in 1908 and also sang in the choir for many years. When the church building was remodeled in 1913, he worked faithfully day after day. When the Epworth Class was in its heyday, the Cleavers' home was always open to the class for all sorts of parties with plenty of entertainment and good eats. And when the choir met at their home for practice, they would often enjoy a good old-fashioned "taffy pull." The Cleavers were never too tired or busy to entertain their minister and his family or any extra guest when called upon to do so. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on December 1, 1948, with relatives and friends coming from many surrounding states. Along with her work in her church, Mrs. Cleaver was active and faithful in the work of the Eastern Star and also the Rebekah Lodge. In addition to her many friends, she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Beth Felt of Salina, and one granddaughter. Five brothers also survive. They are Harry of Salina; Albert and Roscoe of Sturgis, Mich.; John of Marshalltown, Ia.; and Theodore of St. Paul, Minn. Funeral services were held from the Glasco Methodist Church, Saturday, February 20, 1960, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. with the Rev. John Baker officiating. Pallbearers were Joe Sheets, Fred Harper, Edmund Horn, Roy Brown, Chet Halderson, and Lloyd Fletcher. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with Dean Funeral Home of Glasco in charge of arrangements.
