Read More	BELL, James H. – James Henry Bell was born June 20, 1836, in northern Ireland, and departed this life at home in Geneva, Neb., May 13, 1915, aged 77 years, 11 months and 23 days. He was one of a family children and spent the first twenty years of his life in his father's home. At this period of his age he determined to come to America. Gathering his then small possessions, he started out to reach the "new world." After nine weeks of rough voyage on the waters he arrived in New York, going at once to Elizabethport, N. J. Securing employment, he remained there two years, during which time he took the necessary steps to become an American citizen. From Elizabethport, he went to visit his relatives in Canada, where he spent several years. Possessed with a sturdy, active nature he turned his visit into service for an uncle. During this period of his visit in Canada, on the 20th day of December, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Bridget Welch. They remained in Canada until 1865 when they left the dominion and came to the states, locating in Iowa, coming to Nebraska in 1871 and taking a homestead in Chelsea township, Fillmore county. Passing all the tests of life that accompany a strenuous and determined life, he closes with a record of worth and honor. To this happy union were given nine children, seven of whom are still living to bear with the wife and mother and a number of grandchildren their heavy grief in the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. James H. Bell, by his strict adherence to honor, won the confidence and esteem of his fellowmen and all who knew him. He held within his grasp a liberal heart, a good word for his fellows, for he had not as yet lived long enough to learn the language of ill toward anyone. Thus a noble man has gone out from home and people. The last rights to his honored name were conducted' from his late home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon by Rev. Z. C. Mower. A large gathering of sympathetic friends looked upon the face of their worthy fellow and friend for the last time. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful.
