DECEMBER 26, 1922 The funeral of James K. Polk King, former commander of local post G.A.R. and an active worker in local circles of Civil War Vets, who died yesterday, will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon in the Finley Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. U.E. Burroughs will be in charge. The body will lie in state at the Daggett Chapel this evening and tomorrow. The cortege leaving for the church at 2:10 pm. The G.A.R. and all allied organizations are to attend the service. At the request of the deceased, the G.A.R. will give their ritual at the church and the D. of V. at the grave. The 4 sons and 2 grandsons will be pallbearers. The following calls have been issued by the commanders of the various organizations: G.A.R. - S.O.V. - D.O.V. - Ladies of G.A.R. Mr. King enlisted in September 1863 in 36th Iowa Infantry Company H. He was mustered out in St. Charles, Arkansas and honorably discharged at the close of the war in October 1865 at Davenport, Iowa. He had come to Wapello County with his parents at the age of 2. He was born in Hendricks County, Indiana, 78 years ago. The family had settled on government land 8 miles west of Ottumwa and the young man remained on this farm until he enlisted in the service. At the time they came to Ottumwa the land consisted of 3 log cabins. James K. King married Hannah E. Warren on September 22, 1863. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1919.
