Norton, son of John and Harriet King Norton, was born in Oneida county, N.Y. in September of 1860 and died in Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 10, 1930. When one year old he moved with his parents to Illinois and five years later - in 1866 - the family came to Green township, Iowa county, Iowa where he grew to manhood and was married to Mary McArtor, March 21, 1893. Norton, son of John and Harriet King Norton, was born in Oneida county, N.Y. in September of 1860 and died in Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 10, 1930. When one year old he moved with his parents to Illinois and five years later - in 1866 - the family came to Green township, Iowa county, Iowa where he grew to manhood and was married to Mary McArtor, March 21, 1893. Some years after this with his family he moved to the vicinity of Hartwick and they mingled freely with the social life of the community around Victor and were definitely identified with the Methodist Episcopal church and with the I.O.O.F. Upon retiring from the farm he lived some years in Des Moines and later built, owned and managed an oil filling station in Ladora, where some months ago his usually vigorous constitution broke down completely and he was removed to Des Moines where he could be better cared for. He was given every possible comfort by his beloved wife and children until the end of life came. Brief funeral services were held in Des Moines by Rev. W. S.Kight and Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13, at two o'clock, in the M. E. Church in Victor, a funeral sermon was preached by Rev. C. R. Zimmerman, a personal friend for more than sixty years, from the text: Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us. - Ps. 90:17. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Norton; one daughter, Mrs. Alta Messer of Victor; two sons, Earl J. Norton of Kellogg and Orville C. Norton of Valley Junction; one brother, William Norton of Washington; also five grandchildren.
