Lowery OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, March 24, 1938 JAMES LEWIS RANDALL James Lewis Randall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Randall, was born in Cedar township, Lucas county, Iowa, on October 14, 1877, and went to his unexpectedly sudden crowning while doing the evening chores on the farm near Chariton on March 21, 1938, at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 7 days. His parents moved to Lucas county from Knox county, Illinois. Mr. Randall received his education in the Lucas county schools. In 1899 he was married to Miss Marguerite Noland, formerly of Hardin county, Iowa. After his marriage he and Mrs. Randall lived in the old home place in Cedar township and in 1910 moved to their present farm home, four miles northwest of Chariton. Mr. and Mrs. Randall were converted and united with the Bethel church of the United Brethren in Christ, under the pastorate of Rev. William Cunningham, the same minister who had married them. For years Mr. Randall was the choir leader at Bethel church. After moving to their present home they united with the Chariton Church of the United Brethren in Christ, to which they have always been true and faithful, always ready and willing to do their part. Mr. Randall was a two term State Representitive from Lucas county. He was elected for the first time in 1928 and was re-elected in 1930. His long career of public service also included three years as member of the Lucas county Board of Supervisors, four years as Lucas county Farm Steward and two terms as Township Assessor. He was a kind husband, a good father to the daughter, Frances, an accomedating neighbor, a loving brother, a loyal, conscientious and sincere servant of society in different fields of service in which he served, a friend to rich and poor, old and young, a loyal church member and a genuine Christian. Mr. Randall's mother died in 1913 and his father in 1915, and his sister, Mrs. May Wright, in 1923. A brother and sister died in infancy. Surviving him are his wife, their daughter, Frances Louise, one sister, Mrs. Jack Lutz of Chariton, and one brother, Gene Randall, of near Russell. 20 nieces and nephews besides many other loved ones and a great host of friend, both far and near. The funeral was conducted at the Beardsley Funeral Home by the Rev. O. O. Hobson, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Zike of Moravia, at two o'clock this afternoon, March 24th and the body was laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
