STEPHEN RANDALL DEAD One of the oldest and best known christian women of this county, Mrs. Stephen Randall, died at her home near Russell on June 3rd, 1913, and her funeral was held at the Bethel church June 4th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. George Cornford. It is estimated that more than 500 people were at the church to show their respect for the living and to honor the dead. The music was appropriate and the sermon most excellent. Revs. Hicks and Scull, of Chariton, assisted in the services. Mrs. Isabella J. Lowery was born in Knox county, Illinois, on June 24th, 1840, and died June 3rd, 1913, being at the time of her death seventy-three years, four months and ten days old. She was married to Stephen Randall on June 18th, 1866. To this union were born six children, two dying in infancy, Eddie, six months old and Elsie, six weeks old. Those who are left to mourn their loss are her husband, Stephen Randall, her four children, Mrs. May Wright, Mrs. Minnie Lutz, E. H. Randall and James Randall. She is also survived by her aged sister, Mrs. Fannie Cunningham of Kansas City, and her half-brothers, Robert and James Lowery, and half-sisters, Mrs. Lena Davis, Mrs. May Armstrong and Mrs. Della Kumpthon. Mrs. Randall had only been ill about two months. Her death was caused by a complication of asthma and bronchitis. She died very peacefully. She was a devoted wife and mother and a faithful christian woman. Her home was a path of light, leading to the skies, and she will be missed everywhere. She joined the church in her girlhood and was one of the charter members of the United Brethren church at Bethel, east of Chariton. Her body, borne by her sons, grandsons and sons-in-law, was carried to its last resting place near the Bethel church. "She is not dead, but sleepeth." Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
