Son of Edwin Randall and Azuba Phelps OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Thursday, August 26, 1915 STEPHEN RANDALL It can scarcely be comprehended, yet it is true, Stephen Randall of Cedar township has passed to the great beyond. He represented the best citizenship of Lucas county and was instrumental in developing the religious, moral and material interests of the community and those who knew him will be saddened by his death. He was of a firm, frank nature, a strong character and met his obligations as a christian neighbor and friend, measuring well up to the standard by which men are judged. Stephen Randall was born in Fulton Co., Ill., January 26, 1842 and departed this life August 21st. He enlisted in Co. F, 50th Regiment of Illinois Infantry Volunteers on July 13, 1864 and was honorably discharged July 13, 1865. On July 18, 1866, he was united in marriage to Isabell Lowerey, who preceded him two years ago to that better land. In 1873 he came to Jefferson county, Iowa, two years later coming to Lucas county, where he resided until his death. To this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy. Those who survive him are two daughters, Mrs. May Wright of Russell and Mrs. Minnie Lutz of Chariton, two sons, Eugene of Russell and James of Chariton. Also twenty grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In the early 90's he was converted and joined the Bethel class of the United Brethren church of which he remained a member until his Lord and Master called him home to the church triumphant. Funeral services were held at the Bethel church, Monday afternoon, August 23rd, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Geo. J. Cornford, assisted by Dr. Curtis of Chariton. His body was laid to rest beside his companion in the Bethel cemetery, to await the coming of the Lord on the resurrection morning. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
