McClellan was born March 20, 1930, in Birmingham, the son of Clarence J. and Freida F. Tygret McClellan. He married Patricia R. Klett on Aug. 20, 1970, in the Little Brown church in Nashua. He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He worked for Universal Printing for 18 years. He retired from Dexter in 1992 after 17 years. He also worked part time at the Fairfield Golf and Country Club, Super 8 Motel, and as a security guard in Arizona since 1995. He was a member of the original Iowa State Guard when he joined in 1947 after basic training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He served with the 224th Engineeriing Battalion of the Iowa National Guard for 37 years. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1192 and Walton Club. He served as coach and umpire for Fairfield LIttle League for many years, as well as umpire for adult slow-pitch softball and referee for volleyball games. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He had his first hole in one at Walton Club in 1994. Survivors include his wife; a nephew Stan of Fairfield, and several other nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Stacey McClellan in 1991; and three brothers, Robert L., Loren and Charles L.
