Description	:	Monticello Express Newspaper December 27, 1900 Mr. James Overing died at the home of his son, Wm. A. Overing Sr., on the 24th, at the advanced age of 91 years. The deceased was born at Wilmington, England, April 22, 1809. He remained at that place until he reached the age of majority when he came to America, and landed at Quebec in 1830. Overing Sr., on the 24th, at the advanced age of 91 years. The deceased was born at Wilmington, England, April 22, 1809. He remained at that place until he reached the age of majority when he came to America, and landed at Quebec in 1830. He located at Montreal, Canada, where he lived five years. During his residence at that place, and on the 20th of March 1833, he was married to Miss Ann Algive of Sault au Recolet. They moved to Caldwell Manor, Canada in 1835 where they lived until 1848, when they took up their residence at Hemingford, Canada. Thence they went to Clinton, New York, which was their home until 1869, when they came to Sand Spring, Delaware county, Iowa, with their son, Wm. A. Overing Sr., with whom both made their home until death. Mrs. Overing died in 1888. In 1891 Mr. Overing came to Monticello. He was the father of seven children, four of whom survive. The survivors are Mrs. Hugh Kidd and Wm. A. Overing Sr., of Monticello, Robert Overing of Ute, Iowa, and Edwin Overing of Red Cloud, Nebraska. Mr. Overing was a good man, and at no time did he forget the right or the offices of good citizenship. He was intelligent and up to the last took a keen and appreciative interest in the affairs of life. For more than sixty years he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and by the light of the gospel and his understanding kept in view the promises and hope of religion. He had reached more than the allotted years of man yet he will be sadly missed from the family circle and by the good friends who enjoyed his cheerful companionship. The funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon by Rev. W. M. Lemen.
