Orangeville Banner, April 24, 1941, page 10 - Mrs. Joseph Robbins The township of Adjala lost a lifetime resident when Mrs. Joseph Robbins, nee Jane Louisa Coles, passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday, April 15th, in her 54th year. Widely known throughout Adjala and also in the adjoining township of Mono, Mrs. Robbins will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Born in the year 1888, the late Mrs. Robbins was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Coles, well-known residents of Adjala. She lived on the Coles homestead until 1902 , when she became the wife of Joseph Robbins. The young couple took up their residence on lot 16, con. 2, Adjala, east of Hockley village, where they had since resided. Mrs. Robbins was an excellent wife and mother, who devoted much time to her home and family. She was a zealous worker in the Hockley Unit of the Red Cross Society. She was a regular attendant of Hockley United Church and was President of the Ladies' Aid Society at the time of her demise. Her death is mourned by her husband, five daughters, Miss Doris, at home, Mrs. Cecil Kirkham and Mrs. Richard Kennedy, Toronto, Mrs. Charles Nichols, Strathroy, and Mrs. Arthur Bradley, Alton, three sons, Joseph, of Mono, and Bruce and Austin, at home, one sister, Mrs. John Sirrs, of Athlone, and five brothers, Emerson and Lawrence Coles, of Adjala, and Lewis, Milford and Angus Coles, of Mono. The funeral was held to Wesley United Church cemetery on the Mono-Adjala townline on Friday afternoon. A private service was held in the bereaved home and was followed by a largely attended public service in Hockley United Church. The services were conducted by Rev. C. B. Woolley, of Rosemont, pastor of the Hockley church, assisted by Rev. J. D. Paterson, rector of St. James' Anglican church. Many neighbors and friends were present and a large number of lovely floral tributes told of the sympathy and regard of the friends of the family. The pallbearers were Ernest, Milford and Oscar Coles, Thos. Robbins and Stanford Sirrs, of Adjala, and Earl Coles, of Mono, six nephews. The flower bearers, who were also six nephews, were Russell and Earl Sirrs, of Athlone, Laverne Coles, Hockley, John A. Robbins, Joseph and Roy Coles, of Adjala. Janie was first buried in Wesley Cemetery on the 8th Line of Mono Township, but she was removed in June 1951, after the death of Joseph, and buried beside him at St. John's.
