CALVIN McMILLEN An Old Settler of Harrison County Died at Her Home in California March 6th Jane Owens was born in Ohio, August 11th, 1833, and died at Porterville, California, March 6th, 1920, being 86 years, six months and 23 days old. She was married to Calvin McMillen October 18, 1855, in Indiana. To this union were born nine children, seven boys and two girls. One of the girls died in infancy, and another daughter, Mrs. A.J. Fry, and her husband preceded her years ago. She leaves to mourn her departure, George of Bay View, WA, Alex of Porterville, CA, Lewis of Lodi, CA, Charley of Woodbine, M.H. of Logan and an adopted daughter Mrs. J.R. Fry of Missouri Valley. There are also surviving, two brothers, James Owens of Logan and Claiborn Owens, of Lincoln, NE, and two sisters, Mrs. I.E. Ellison of Omaha and Mrs. Margaret Longman of Chicago, besides a number of other relatives and friends. March 6th, 1919, she left Logan going to California to live with her two sons there, and she seemed to enjoy life just as well as possible for one of her age. She was always jolly and never had an ache or a pain. She was singing in the evening before she was taken and went to bed apparently just as well as common, but passed away at 6:10 in the morning. She was laid to rest in the Home of Peace cemetery by the side of her sister, Annie, who preceded her in death last June. She had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church for years, living true to her faith to the last. Rev. Crawford of the First Baptist church officiated at the services.
