Obituary Woodbine Twiner, May 9, 1913) GRANDMA WHARTON PASSES ON Mrs. Benjamin Wharton, one of the early pioneers of Harrison County, passed away last Thursday, May 1st, at an advanced age, death coming as the result of infirmities due to declining years. Lydia Owens was born in Ohio in 1826. With her parents she lived and grew to womanhood in her native state, and upon reaching the age of 21 or 22 she was married to Squire Young, of the Ohio locality. From this union three sons were born, Jake, Elias and L.R. Young. Jake went west to one of the mountain states, where he died some years ago, Elias is still living in the east, at Reelsville, Indiana, L.R. Young, Ritt, as he is commonly known, is, and has been for years, a resident of this community. Some eight or nine years later, in Indiana, Mrs. Young was married to Benjamin Wharton, and two children were born as the result of this union. They were James Wharton, who died some ten or twelve years ago, and one daughter, who is now Mrs. Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson live northwest of town, and have since an early day, and are well known not only in this community but by the older inhabitants of Harrison County. Mr. Thompson's father, also Thomas Thompson, being among the first settlers in the Bigler's Grove locality. Mrs. Wharton, since the death of her husband some years ago, has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Thompson. Though afflicted for many years in the loss of sight she has been patient through it all and lived considerably beyond her three score and ten years. Besides immediate relatives mentioned, many grandchildren and others, taking in the Wharton, Thompson and Young families are among relatives, most of whom live in the vicinity of Woodbine. The funeral was held Friday, at the Thompson residence, Rev. Aukerman preaching the sermon, and leading the way to the old Bigler's Grove Cemetery where the remains were laid to rest.
