Description	:	James was a cousin. He was the son of Jacob OWENS & Ellender "Nellie" MCNEAL Owens. He was married to Zilpha Ann DARTING on May 24, 1854, in Harmony, Clay Co., IN. Their children together were: Angeline, Carolida "Dora" Isadore, Archibald, Newton Isaac, Sarah Ann, Jacob Frederick, and Viola Clara Belle OWENS. James served during the Civil War, in Co. They marched to St. Joseph, Missouri, December 5-9, and onward to Benton Barracks, Missouri, December 19-20, 1862. Moved to New Orleans, LA, thence home and mustered out August 10, 1865. Obituary "Harrison County Democrat" 12 Jan 1922 JAMES OWENS ANSWERS LAST ROLL CALL AT END OF A LONG LIFE. James Owens, Logan's oldest citizen in point of age, died on Tuesday Evening, January 10th at the age of 90 years 7 months and 10 days. He was born in Ohio May 15, 1831 and was one of a family of thirteen, two of whom survive him, Clayborn Owens of Bethany, Nebraska and Mrs. I.C. Ellison of Omaha. He was married to Zilpha Darting in 1855 at Harmony, Indiana and to them six children were born, three of whom and the mother have preceded him to the Great Beyond. In 1862 Mr. Owens freighted from Omaha to Denver by ox team returning in August of the same year and enlisted in Company C 29th Iowa Volunteers serving for three years during the Civil War. After his discharge he returned to Harrison County where he made his home for 64 years. For several years he lived on a farm, later spending some 25 years in Missouri Valley and after a short sojourn in Lincoln, Nebraska he moved to Logan where he has since made his home. He is survived by three children, Mrs. C.H. Strauss of this city, N.I. Owens of Norfolk, Nebraska and Mrs. Sarah Routzahn of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Also by seventeen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Mr. Owens had lived a long and useful life and had made a host of friends who regret his passing. The funeral was held this morning from the Church of Christ in this city.
