Jan fought a short courageous battle with cancer. Jan was born on April 11, 1934, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Her parents were Detlef and Ottie Grau. She lived the majority of her life in Council Bluffs. Jan retired and spent many years in Phoenix, Ariz., and mostly lived in Vancouver. Jan fought a short courageous battle with cancer. Jan was born on April 11, 1934, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Her parents were Detlef and Ottie Grau. She lived the majority of her life in Council Bluffs. Jan retired and spent many years in Phoenix, Ariz., and mostly lived in Vancouver. Jan graduated from St. Anthony's Nursing School in Carroll, Iowa, in 1954. She was a proud RN. She worked in all aspects of nursing care. She especially enjoyed her work in surgery. She enjoyed the final years of her career working in geriatrics. In 1955, Jan married her sweetheart, Bryce H. Birchard. Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Bryce; and infant daughter, Vicki Lynn. Jan is survived by daughter, Nancy Jackson, of Vancouver; son, Scott and wife, Melinda, of Escondido, Calif.; daughter, Lori Pierce, of Council Bluffs; son, Steve and wife, Linda, of Creston, Iowa; son, Stuart, of Omaha, Neb.; son, Sean, of Phoenix, Ariz. Jan is also survived by a beloved 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. If the angels are playing a ball game, Bryce and Jan will find it! A private Memorial Service will be held. Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society in the name of Jan Birchard.
