Description	:	The Lenox Time Table Thursday, March 3, 1932 Jesse Washington Clayton, son of James and Paradise Clayton, was born in Warren county, near Monmouth, Illinois, May 30, 1852, and died at his home in this city (Clearfield) on February 25, 1932, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 25 days. He spent his boyhood days and obtained a common school education and grew to manhood near the place of his birth. Read More	The Lenox Time Table Thursday, March 3, 1932 Jesse Washington Clayton, son of James and Paradise Clayton, was born in Warren county, near Monmouth, Illinois, May 30, 1852, and died at his home in this city (Clearfield) on February 25, 1932, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 25 days. He spent his boyhood days and obtained a common school education and grew to manhood near the place of his birth. On Christmas day, 1879, he was united in marriage to Jennie Stafford of Roseville, Illinois, and to this union were born thirteen children. One infant son and Edith Pearl died, in early childhood, the others are: Elmer Clayton of Edgley, N. D., Bertie Pointer of Detroit, Michigan; John Clayton of Akron, Ohio; Ethel Porter of Des Moines; Arthur Clayton of Diagonal; Jessie Williams and Nellie Lawhead of Leon, Iowa; Emma Bailey, Myrtle Palmer, Charley Clayton and Marie Reed of Clearfield. In 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Clayton moved to Iowa, locating 8 miles southeast of Lenox, and two years later moving to Ringgold county where they raised their family and lived until thirteen years ago when they moved to their present home. Locating in this locality in its early pioneer days, it was the privilege of Mr. Clayton to help in the construction of our railroad and also to watch Clearfield grow from its infancy to its Golden Jubilee which was celebrated last year. It was a source of great joy that Mr. and Mrs. Clayton celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1929. He united with the Methodist church of Clearfield and was a faithful and consistent member to the time of his death. To mourn his death are his wife, four .sons, and seven daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral but Elmer, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three brothers; Wilbur Clayton of Clearfield, Silas Clayton of Berwick, Illinois, Chas. Clayton of Peoria, Illinois; and one sister, Mrs. W. F. Vaudeaver of Bedwick, Illinois; a number of nephews and nieces, other relatives and many friends will ever cherish his memory, Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. John C. Turner, assisted by Rev. P. L. Browns of the Christian church and Rev. H. B. Hutchman of the United Presbyterian church. Interment in Clearfield cemetery.
