Sheets Funeral Monday Jessie Irene Sheets, daughter of Oliver Grant Yocum and Susanna Zimmerman Yocum, was born on a farm north of Simpson, Ks., on Aug. 2, 1900. At the age of 85 years, she died at the Long Term Care Unit of the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Ks., on Friday, Oct. 18, 1985. As a girl, Jessie attended rural schools in Cloud and Mitchell County. She was a graduate of Beloit High School with Class of 1920. She followed the vocation of nursing and was trained at the Concordia Hospital and at Grant Hospital, Chicago, Ill. She was a private duty nurse in Beloit. Her marriage to Joseph David Sheets took place at the home of her parents in Beloit on Dec. 20, 1936. They became the parents of one daughter, Joleen. Following their marriage the family made their home on a farm near Glasco. They resided there until 1951, when they moved to Concordia, Kansas. It was during their years in Concordia that Jessie operated the Sheets Nursing Home for eight years. She also assisted her husband as he managed the Concordia Livestock Auction by operating the lunch room for nineteen years. Following their retirement they moved to Glasco to make their home, where they resided since 1973. Jessie was a member of the Church of Christ at Beloit. She also belonged to the Wisteria Club of Glasco. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph Walter Yocum and William Ross Yocum; and one sister, Susanna Rachel Yocum. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joe Sheets, and her daughter, Joleen, both of the home in Glasco. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Carrie Underkofler and husband, Guy, Mrs. Myrtle Twaddell and husband Harman, all of Beloit, Mrs. Louise Smith of McCleary, Wash., and Mrs. Lorraine Birdsell and husband Alfred, Montesano, Wash. Also surviving are Birdie Hammar and Bernice Evans, neices who were raised as members of the Yocum family. She leaves a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at the Dean Funeral Home . Jesse Stephens, Church of Christ, Beloit, officiated. Music was by Mrs. Jesse Stephens and Doug Twaddell. Casket bearers were Warren Birdsell, Wayne Sangster, Stan Schmidt, Charles Sulanka, Bob Tipton and Dale Twaddell. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery.
