Interment followed at Union Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Jessie “Mae” Ashmore Stokes was born at home in Union Hill, LA on May 27, 1916. Mrs. Stokes entered eternal rest on April 9, 2015 at the age of 98, at Matthews Memorial Health Care Center in Alexandria, LA. She loved gardening, sewing, quilting and cooking. She was a member of Calcasieu Baptist Church. Mrs. Jessie deeply loved her church and had a deep faith in her Lord. She was a 1934 graduate of Glenmora High School graduating with honors. She also went on to attend Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all those she loved and knew. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ophelia Johnson Ashmore and Joshua David Ashmore; her husband, Frank Earle Stokes and her grandson, Frank Earle Stokes. Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her two sons and daughters-jn-law; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all the nurses, CNA’s and staff at Matthews Memorial Health Care Center and Guardian Hospice In Alexandria, LA for their loving care and concern during this time. Services were under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
