Jewell Marie Rubenking, the fifth of six children of Peter Andrew and Viola Elizabeth (Warnett) Coleman, was born on October 10, 1919 in Gid, Arkansas. There she grew up and attended school. Jewell met Francis Eugene Rubenking while he was stationed in St. Louis, Missouri. They were married on May 1, 1947 in Pocahontas, Arkansas and were blessed with two daughters, Rita Jean and Janet Kay. They lived in Nebraska City, Nebraska where Gene worked for the Pattycake Bakery until he was burned in an oven explosion. They relocated to Malvern, Iowa where Gene farmed for Jack Steele and later worked for the Malvern Street Department and other Malvern businesses. Jewell enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetable garden and getting together with a group of ladies in town once a month, her husband Gene called it a "hen party". She loved taking care of Gene and her girls and spending time with her grandchildren. Jewell was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and a good friend to all who knew her. Jewell and Gene were married 54 years when he passed away on June 20, 2000. Jewell passed away at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa on December 29, 2016 at the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 19 days. In addition to her husband, Jewell was also preceded in death by her parents; grandson Jason Simpson; sisters, Oma Grimes, Margie Owens Campbell, Mamie Pugh, and Audrey Pruett; and brother Clarence Coleman. Jewell is survived by her daughters, Rita Simpson and husband Jay of Auburn, NE, and Janet Brammer and husband Raymond of Malvern; grandsons, Shawn Simpson and Jeremy Simpson; and granddaughter Megan Simpson; other relatives; and many friends.
