Mrs. Henning's children include Mrs. Grunthal, Charles, August and Fred Henning of Glasco and Gustave Henning of Kearney, Nebraska. Glasco Sun, Feb. 11, 1915, page 4: Mrs. Johanna Henning died February 2, 1915, at the age of 78 years and 3 months. She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters who live in Germany, four sons, one daughter, twenty-five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, all of whom live near Glasco, with the exception of one son, who lives at Kearney, Neb. The deceased was born Nov. 2, 1837, at Gross Poplow, Germany. She came to America with her husband and part of the family in 1889. The family settled near Glasco, where our departed sister led a quiet life, fraught with a generous measure of hard work, the privations and painful struggles that came to her in a foreign country, where she and her good husband had to begin the business of life all over again, when past the age of fifty. But she and her husband were two remarkable people in fortitude, in patient perseverance, and in the firm reliance upon God. They prayed as hard as they worked, the man, of feeble frame, doing the praying, the woman, strong of will and body, the hard work. The husband died more than ten years ago, and since then his wife has made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. George Grunthal, always active and bent upon to earn, if possible, her own sustenance until death should say "No more." For twenty-one years she has done part of the janitor work at the Lutheran church, and the church council in appreciation and in gratitude dedicated to her memory a wreath of flowers. Born and raised a Lutheran, she became a member of the church upon her own confession through confirmation, and when now, after an illness of three months' duration, she felt that death was coming, was confirmed and strengthened in her faith by the partaking of the Lord's supper. We sincerely hope and believe that she will meet with her husband before the throne of Grace.
