He was aged 81 years, 7 months and 6 days. John A. Anderson was born September 17, 1873, at Lockridge, Ia., the son of John and Louisa Samuelson Anderson. Anderson Sr., long time prominent resident of Fairmont, passed away at the York General hospital, Monday, April 18, 1955, after an extended illness. He was aged 81 years, 7 months and 6 days. John A. Anderson was born September 17, 1873, at Lockridge, Ia., the son of John and Louisa Samuelson Anderson. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church at New Sweden, Ia., May 4, 1885. He later transferred his membership to the Methodist church at Fairmont, Neb., where he remained a faithful and devoted member until his passing. While his formal education was limited, he had a brilliant mind and became well educated in his own right by extensive reading and research. He received his early education in a rural school near Lockridge. He later briefly attended Howes Academy at Mr. Pleasant, Ia. He was married to Miss Estelle Swanson September 4, 1900, at Fairfield, Ia. Four children were born to this union. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson moved to Nebraska in the spring of 1904, and lived in York county seven years. They then moved to Minnesota, where they lived for six years, after which they returned to a farm southwest of Fairmont. They resided there until 1937, when Mr. Anderson retired from the farm and moved to his present home in Fairmont. Mr. Anderson had a keen interest in civic and government affairs, in which he served in numerous capacities. Among the public offices held, he served on the Fillmore county board of supervisors for 16 consecutive years, having been first elected in the fall of 1928. During his term he had the distinction of having never missed a meeting during the 16 years. During four years he served as chairman of the board. Mr. Anderson was very interested in Masonic work. He was raised a Master Mason November 14, 1923. He was a past master of Fairmont Lodge No. 48. During the last 15 years he served as chaplain of the lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson observed their golden wedding anniversary September 4, 1950. He is survived by his four children, Mrs. Ruth Lovegrove of Lincoln, Mrs. Gladys Brandt of Aurora, Mrs. Vera Clark of aurora, and John A. Anderson of Fairmont, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. John Pierson of Fairfield, Ia. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson, John Robert Lovegrove. Mr. Anderson was a kind and loving husband and father. At the time of his approaching death, the Bible was his companion. He expressed his faith in God and lay claim to life eternal through Jesus Christ his Lord. He was most faithful in his attendance to his duties and diligent in useful service to the church. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Methodist church in Fairmont. Dr. Charles B. Hankins conducted the service at the church, assisted by Mrs. A. P. Stewart at the organ and Oliver Moul, who sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Going Down the Valley."
