Read More	The following is the obituary that was copied by hand many years ago. JOHN B. FUNKE He Passes Away Death of One of Tipton's Most Estimable Young Men. On the 21st day of March 1897, at 7 o'clock Sunday evening, John B. Funke, son of John T. and Mrs. Funke, departed this life at the residence of his parents. John completed his 25th year February 9. On March 30 his remains were carried into St. John's Catholic Church, where the last rites of the church were administered by Rev. Beigle. Rev. Beigle in his sermon said, (That Catholics believe that it is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead. And those who do not die in a state of mortal sin suffer for a time after death until purged of the strain of trivial sins, as nothing defiled can enter heaven, and that our heavenly Father will harken to the voice of prayer offered on earth for the soul of a departed friend. That God, in His mercy, in response to the humble petition offered up to Him from the earth in behalf of departed souls, destined to a home of eternal bliss, will mitigate or shorten the penalty which separates those souls from the mansion of heaven." At the altar, the sacrifice of the Mass and prayer were offered up to our heavenly Father for the repose of the soul of John B. Funke. A ceremony was performed over the body - the temple of the soul. The long funeral procession then moved to the Catholic cemetery at Tipton, where relatives and friends assembled around the grave and witnessed the solemn spectacle of lowering the earthly remains of John into his last resting place. Only a few weeks ago, John was a healthy, joyous boy. His cheerful countenance awakened good cheer around him, and his host of friends could scarcely realize that cheerful John, who was all life a little while ago, could now be cold in death. Especially was his death a great shock to his parents, brothers, and sisters, who have the sympathy of their large circle of friends. The family was not alone in their grief. Kind friends living at a distance and unable to attend sent letters and telegrams full of sympathy and encouragement. These thoughtful messages helped greatly to heal the bleeding hearts, and place stars of hope in the skies of despair. Age 25years, 1 month, 18 days.
