Deceased was born in Montgomery county, Indiana, Nov. 12, 1832. He came to Webster county, Ia. on Dec. 24, 1852, were he lived until his death. He was married Nov. 15, 1860 [marriage records show Jan. 8, 1861 marriage date], to Miss Sarah L. Payne. There were born to them two sons and two daughters, on whom three are married. Deceased was born in Montgomery county, Indiana, Nov. 12, 1832. He came to Webster county, Ia. on Dec. 24, 1852, were he lived until his death. He was married Nov. 15, 1860 [marriage records show Jan. 8, 1861 marriage date], to Miss Sarah L. Payne. There were born to them two sons and two daughters, on whom three are married. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. Brother Deck was a great sufferer and for several months past prayed that the Lord might take him home if it was his will. A short time before he died he requested those with him to sing, "Oh, for a closer walk with God." He exhorted his wife and children to put their trust in God. Brother Deck was a member of the M.E. church in Stratford. He had many warm friends in this community. We cannot but rejoice that our brother has gone to that land where sickness, sorrow, pain and death are felt and feared no more. We wish also to state that brother Deck went into the United States service in Co. E Second Iowa Regiment on the 28th of Dec. 1864, and remained until May 31, 1865 when he was discharged.
