For several years Mr. Nestle's health has been failing, but about a year ago he received a fall from which several ribs were broken. Read More	March 8, 1895 - Carroll Sentinel - Yesterday at 5:10 p.m. J.E. Nestle died after a lingering illness of many months. For several years Mr. Nestle's health has been failing, but about a year ago he received a fall from which several ribs were broken. This confined him to his room for some weeks and his health was never good afterward. The disease which resulted in his death was caused by degeneration of the spinal cord. For some months he has had no need of his limbs, they being entirely beyond his control. Early in the winter he was so feeble that he oould not leave his bed without assistance. From that time he has gradually failed, and for the past week his life has hung in the balance. He had sinking spells during this time and would only rally to sink lower the next time. Those who knew good-souled John Nestle, so full of life, with prospects of many years before him, and have heard that jovial laugh of his, can hardly realize that today he is still in death. His friends, and all who came within his influence, have sympathized with him during his suffering of late and have hoped against hope that he would recover. But as they saw him sinking lower day by day they gave up hope and today join with his relatives in mourning his loss. His wife, who survives him, has shown her true devotion and untiring during the long sickness through which he has passed, and if human beings are to be rewarded in the future for the deeds done while here, her name will shine bright in the constellation of those who have done their duty. The deceased at the time of his death was a member of the Masonic lodge, the chapter, I.O.O.F., and the Germania society. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. Jobn Nestle was born in Wittenburg, Germany, July 18, 1830. He attended school in his native country until 14 years of age when he learned the trade of a weaver at which he worked for four years. When 18 years old he came to America and first located at Philadelphia. From there he moved to Germantown, Kentucky, and in 1851 located at Leavenworth, Kan. During tbe John Brown trouble, he participated in several skirmishes. Mr. Nettle was married in 1877 to Mrs. Fredericka Breckel, two children George Nestle and Maggie Nichols of Council Bluffs, survive him from a former marriage. In 1860 he moved to Marshalltown where he resided until he came to Carroll in 1883. Since that time Mr. Nestle has made his home in our city. During his life he had been successful in business and secured enough of this world's goods to care for his wife and keep her in comfortable circumstances. With the loss of Mr. Nestle our city loses one of its best citizens and all who remember the deceased have a warm place in their hearts for him and sympathize with the family in their loss.
