In a little tumble down cabin he and his aged sister have hidden themselves away from civilization of which they neither knew nor cared. On the banks of a little stream in Penn. Twp., his lonely log hut stands. A veritable jungle of forest shouberry and wild growth hides it completely from the sight of any chance hunter, or other passer. Steps hewn out of the hardened clay lead to the door. Here Frakes, who is 81, and his sister, who is 86, have lived their lonely lives, seldom venturing beyond the confines of their little six acre plot of ground from which they eked out a precarious existence. Only the direst necessity caused these recluses to leave their hermit home. They had no neighbors, nor desired none. Living almost within walking distance of this city, John Frakes has never visited it since the day, 40 years ago, that he came here to see Sells Forepaugh Circus, whose tents were pitched on the vacant lots now occupied by the Louden Machinery Company's big factory buildings. Since then he has scarcely more than left the limitations of his little farm. January 18, 1922 Obituary: Residen of County over 80 years, Dead. John Frakes, a resident of Jefferson Co., for eighty-two years, died at six o'clock last night. The arrangements for funeral rites have not been completed. Mr. Frakes was born in Hancock Co., Kentucky and came to Iowa as a small boy. He was well known in the county.
