Shuss, one of the oldest residents of the Table Rock area passed away at the Pawnee County Hospital Friday at the age of 93. He had been in the hospital since suffering a stroke a week earlier. Mr. Shuss was a retired farmer, having lived on the present farm northeast of Table Rock for the past 36 years. His wife, Elizabeth, died in 1938. He is survived by his tow sons, Junius and Harold, both of Table Rock. He had made his home on the farm with his son Junius until entering the hospital. Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ in Table Rock Monday afternoon with the Rev. Larry Fiscus of Lincoln officiating. Interment was in the DuBois Cemetery. Pallbearers were Orval Johnson, Frank Mertes, Harry Wilcox, Orvin Gold, Wayne Covault and George Gilbert. The soloist was Mrs. Ardyce Freeman, who was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. C. W. OBITUARY- JOHN SHUSS John Franklin Shuss, son of John Shuss and Rachel Elder Shuss, was born near Blair, Nebr., October 17, 1874 and passed away on March 8, 1968 at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was one of a family of eight children. When he was a small boy, the family moved to a farm south of Pawnee City, Nebr. where he grew to manhood. As a young man he homesteaded in Idaho. After proving up on his homestead, he returned to Nebraska. On December 25, 1906, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hildebrand of DuBois, Nebr. The couple made their home near Winchester, Idaho for several years, and their two sons, Junius and Harold were born there. They lived on a farm near DuBois, and in 1932 moved to the present farm home northeast of Table Rock. Mr. Shuss became a member of the Church of the Brethren during young manhood. After coming to Table Rock the family were regular attendants at the Christian Church where Mrs. Shuss taught a Sunday School class of young girls and Mr. Shuss was a long-time member of the Bible class. They were saddened by the death of Mrs. Shuss, the beloved wife and mother, who passed away April 27, 1938. In recent years Mr. Shuss and son Junius made their home together on the farm. Mr. Shuss was taken to the Pawnee Hospital March 3, following a stroke, where he died on March 8. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his two sons, Junius and Harold, and a daughter-in-law, Margaret, all of Table Rock; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Shuss remained remarkably active in mine and body until his illness. He was a man of compassion and integrity and was trusted and respected by all who knew him.
