Peterson [sic] John F. Petterson was born in Sweden on August 15, 1881. There he was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church. At the age of 21 he sailed for America and eventually settled in Omaha. Here he met and married Miss Christina Christianson. They were united in marriage on December 23, 1883. To this union nine children were born two of which preceded their father in death. The Petterson family lived in Omaha for 23 years and then moved to Sherman county. Here he found employment as a road builder and helping to lay out and construct practically every road and highway in the county. His wife, Mrs. Christina Petterson, nee Christianson, died in August, 1819 (1918). Mr. Petterson carried on with his chosen vocation until advancing age compelled him to retire. In later years he was united in wedlock to Mary Baumann who survives him. For the past three months he was under the care of a doctor and it was thought advisable to move him to a hospital in Grand Island. His condition became steadily worse and he died February 16, 1942, having attained the age of 81 years, 6 months and one day. He leaves to mourn his death: his widow, Mrs. Mary Petterson; five sons, Charlie, William and John of Loup City and Harry and Albert both of Kimball; two daughters, Estella Dolling of Osceola, Iowa and Anneta Anderson of Arnold; two sisters, Mrs. Ida VanMoorlehem of Canada and Mrs. Tilda Fredrickson of Salt Lake City, Utah, 21 grand children and one great grand child.
