He had been ill for the past month and seriously ill the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Vollmer observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1940 and would have celebrated their 68th anniversary on January 31, 1958 had he lived until that date. Funeral rites will be held in St. Lawrence Church at 10 a.m Thursday with the Rev. Arthur S Poeckes officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The body may be viewed at tha Sharp Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Wednesday and the rosary, led by Fr. Poeckes, will be recited in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Vollmer was the son of Elizabeth and Michael Vollmer and was born December 10, 1863 at Guttenberg. As a young child, he came with his parents to Templeton. On January 1, 1890 he was married to Elizabeth Macke at Sacred Heart Church, Templeton, with the Rev. Fr. Schulte officiating. After his marriage he farmed for a short time near Templeton later moving to town where he engaged in the masonry trade and the mercantile business. In 1913 the family moved to Carroll where he was employed by the Railway Express Company until his retirement in 1937. He is survived by his wife and the following daughters: Mrs. C.F. Reilly (Mabel), Carroll; Mrs. A.R. Anneberg (Etta), Carroll; Mrs. W.H. Carpenter (Leola), Carroll; and Mrs. J.B. Micka (Julia), Virginia, Minn. Also surviving are six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Clara Pexa, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two brothers William of Yankton, S.D.; and Frank of Manning. Preceding him in death were an infant son John; a daughter Mrs. Lawrence Schwenck (Ellen) who passed away in 1926; two brothers Ed and Michael; and four sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Sevening, Mrs. Bertha Boos, Mrs. Josie Blair, and Mrs. Ellen Freetly. Mr. Vollmer was a member of St. Lawrence Church and the parish Holy Name Society. He was educated at Sacred Heart School, Templeton.
