Description	:	John Harvey White, 80 of Lowesville, died Feb. 15 at his residence. Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Corbett Warren White and Emily Huffman White. He was a retired maintenance manager supervisor with the Virginia Department of Transportation with more than 49 years of service. John began his career with the Highway Department in 1949 as a book-keeper at the Bryant Headquarters. Read More	John Harvey White, 80 of Lowesville, died Feb. 15 at his residence. Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Corbett Warren White and Emily Huffman White. He was a retired maintenance manager supervisor with the Virginia Department of Transportation with more than 49 years of service. John began his career with the Highway Department in 1949 as a book-keeper at the Bryant Headquarters. He later served as construction inspector on both the Carter Glass and John Lynch Bridges in Lynchburg as well as many other roads and bridges in the Lynchburg District. He later became construction maintenance manager and retired in 1991. After retirement he very much en-joyed being at home with his wife of 60 years and farming his country farm. As a young man, John was a talented baseball pitcher and pitched with the Tri-County League for 10 to 12 years and was offered a position in Major League Baseball, but he declined so that he could be at home and care for his family. He was a member of Jonesboro Baptist Church at Roseland and is survived by his wife Charlotte Fitzgerald White; two daughters, Leigh W. Harvey and husband, Mac, of Lovingston, and Cynthia C. Angus and husband, David, of Amherst; two sons, John Harvey White Jr., of Lowesville, and A. Stephen White and Linda Hall, of Rustburg; two sisters, Gertrude Martin, of Lynchburg, and Mary Evans, of Roseland; two brothers, Wilson White, of Roseland, and Warren White, of Lynchburg; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the family cemetery near the home place. The family received friends at the funeral home and suggested that memorials take the form of contributions to the Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24503.
