Augustine, well-known residents of the county, who reside near Albion, celebrated recently the fifty-fourth anniversary of their marriage by being guests of honor at a family dinner party held at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Charles A. Robinson, in Albion.Mr. and Mrs. Augustine have lived in this county continuously since coming here from their native Pennsylvania in 1866. They reached the village of Albion in the fall of the first year following the close of the civil war, spent the winter in the village, and in the spring bought and moved on a farm a quarter of a mile east of the town, where they have lived ever since.Mr. and Mrs. Augustine were natives of the same township and county of Pennsylvania - Addison Township, Somerset County. They were born within a few miles of one another, reared in the same neighborhood, and married at the home of Mrs. Augustine's parents, near what was then the town of Petersburg, but now known as Addison. They continued to live in Pennsylvania until they came to Iowa.Mr. Augustine was one of twelve children comprising the family of Peter and Mary (Wass) Augustine. He was born March 18, 1836. There were two other sons and three daughters of the large family still living, in the persons of A. P. Augustine, Mrs. Martha Gillespie, and Mrs. Mary Stine, of this city; Peter Augustine, of Stormsburg, Nebraska; and Mrs. Elizabeth Troutman, of Denver, Colorado. Two of Mr. Augustine's sisters died after reaching maturity, and one brother and three sisters died in infancy.Mrs. Augustine was born Emily Jane Turney, March 31, 1841, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Turney. There were ten children - nine daughters and one son - in her father's family, and the brother and two sisters are living. They are Jonas Turney and Mrs. Lucinda Nicklow, of Addison, Pennsylvania; and Mrs. Susanne Ringer, of Kansas.Mr. and Mrs. Augustine were married February 25, 1858, and upon coming to this county were compelled to give up their eldest daughter, Sarah Ann, who died at the age of 5 years the same fall they came to Albion. Their oldest son, Charles J. Augustine, died November 9, 1907, Chadron, Nebraska. Their other five children are living , and all with the exception of one son, were present at, the recent anniversary gathering. The children are Thomas Augustine, of Chadron, Nebraska; Hiram and Rollin Augustine of Albion; Mrs. Lillie Carpenter, wife of Edwin F. Carpenter, of Chadron; and Mrs. Jessie Robinson, wife of C. A.
