John Henry Krenkle John Henry Krenkle was born October 17, 1926, to Briscoe and Bertha Krenkle, on his grandfather Krenkle's farm, south of Simpson, and passed away August 26, 1945, at Camp Fannin, Texas, just fifteen days after he was inducted into the army. When he was five years of age he moved with his parents to Wyoming, where he started his schooling. After one year of schooling they moved to Gering, Nebr., where he completed the tenth grade. The following summer the family moved to California, where he completed the eleventh grade. Due to the difference in the grading systems it would have been impossible for him to have completed his high school education in California before answering the call of his country. He came to stay with his uncle, Clyde Gentry, at Simpson, Kansas, and finish his senior year. He was a member of the high school band and was active in all branches of athletics. He gave his heart to the Lord and Savior when he was nine years of age, at Scotts Bluff, Nebr. At the time of his death he was a member of the Baptist church in Alameda, California. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his parents, two sisters, Elizabeth of Denver, Colo.; and Phyllis, of the home; one grandfather, several uncles and aunts and cousins, besides a host of friends. John Henry was always known to his friends by his sunny smile. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Philip Hayes Krenkle, who gave his life for his country Nov. 20, 1943, at Tarawa Atoll, Gilbert Island, near the equator, in the Pacific Ocean. Funeral services were conducted from the Stine Mortuary in Glasco at 7 o'clock Friday evening. Services were in charge of Rev. F. Russell Pitman, pastor of the Simpson Baptist church, and the American Legion of Glasco. Interment was in Glasco cemetery. Pall bearers were his basketball team and coach: Sid Smith, Bobby Gentry, Clarence Blaha, LeRoy Spicher and Dean Snyder. Sgt. Wahl accompanied the body home from Camp Fanning.
