Read More	-- CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- John Howard Lindner, 86, of Shades Lane, died Thursday evening at Sacred Heart Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. Mr. Lindner was a pioneer in Maryland beekeeping and he was noted for his prize winning honey and honey displays. More than 40 years ago he began renting bees to owners of apple orchards in Maryland and West Virginia, marking at that time an entirely new approach to full production of fruit and vegetables. He was the first Maryland beekeeper to move honey bees to the orange groves of Florida. He also manufactured the modern bee hive, and equipment which he produced can be found in most areas of the state. Mr. Lindner was regularly the recipient of the Grand Champion Award at the Maryland State Fair until his retirement in 1969. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late George Mathias and Florence (Bramble) Lindner. His wife, Teresa (Lehman) Lindner, preceded hime in death. He is survived by seven daughters and four sons. Five of his daughters are members of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, the order of sisters who operate Sacred Heart Hospital. They are Sister Mary Florence Lindner, of St. Charles School, Pikesville; Sister Madeleine Lindner, of Gibbons High School, Petersburg. Va.; Sister Clare Lindner, of St. Joseph Provincial House, Emitsburg; Sister Mary John Lindner, or Marellar Provincial House, St. Louis, Mo., and Sister Regina Lindner, of Portsmouth Catholic High School, Portsmouth, Va. The other two daughters are Mrs. Marie Yockus and Mrs. Loretta Lippold, both of this city. His sons are John Vincent Lindner, and Philip Edward Lindner, both of this city; James Joseph Lindner, Johnstown, Pa., and Michael Leo Lindner, Timonium. Also surviving are a brother, Louis Lindner; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Stegmaier, Mary E. Lindner and Mrs. Gertrude Yockus; 17 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's Church and the St. Patrick's Holy Name Society. The body is at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, where friends will be received today and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The roasry will be recited at the funeral home Sunday at 8 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at SS.
