Description	:	Relatives received word Sunday of the death of a Hand county pioneer, John L. Jones, who passed away Saturday night in a Bremerton, Wash., hospital. In failing health for some time, Mr. Jones became seriously ill about two months ago, and since that time had been confined to the hospital. A brother, Eldon Jones, had spent several weeks in Bremerton with him, and had returned home only the day before his death. Funeral arrangements were still tentative, although plans are being made to hold the services on Saturday afternoon from the community church in St. Lawrence. Born in Wales July 19, 1879, Mr. Jones came to this county in the spring of 1883 with his parents. He grew to manhood here, and established his own home in the St. Lawrence vicinity, where he farmed until about three years ago, when the family moved to Couer d' Alene, Idaho. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, and eight sons and daughters: Levi, Portland, Ore.; Lloyd, Couer d' Alene, Idaho; Teddy, Mrs. Lloyd Butterfield, Mrs. Mike Ward, Vernon of Bremerton, Wash.; Virgil, with the armed services, and Mrs. Mintka Eilts of Ree Heights,. Four children preceded him in infancy. He is also survived by three brothers, Allen Jones, Eldon Jones of St. Lawrence; R.M. Jones, Worthington, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Bert Conkey and Mrs. Gordon Conkey of St. Lawrence 23 Oct. 1943 ~~~~~~~ Services Held For Pioneer of County Funeral servies for John L. Jones, former St. Lawrence resident, were held from the Community church Saturday afternoon. Burial was made in the St. Lawrence cemetery. John L. Jones was born in Chester, Wales, July 19, 1879 and came to Wessington in the spring of 1883. His father homesteaded in Gilbert township in the Beulah neighborhood. Here he grew to manhood and attended school and church at Beulah. He was married to Mabel King on September 3, 1902, and they established their home in St. Lawrence Township. To this union twelve children were born, four of whom preceded him in death. "Johnny," as he was familiarly known, was a successful farmer for many years. He was a kind neighbor, friend and one of the substantial citizens of Hand county. In 1936 the family moved to Cour d' Alene, Idaho, where they have since resided. He passed away October 23, 1943, at the Bremerton hospital, where he had been for treatment. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, five sons and three daughters, Levi of Camas, Wash.; Kenneth of Cour d' Alene; Teddy, Mrs. Lloyd Butterfield, Mrs. Mike Ward and Vernon of Bremerton, Wash., and Mrs. Mintke Eilts of Miller. Danzly Virgil with the paratroopers at Fort Benning, Ga., and twelve grandchildren. Also surviving are his three brothers, Allen and Eldon Jones of Miller, R.M. Jones of Worthington, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Bert Conkey and Mrs. Gordon Conkey, both of St. Lawrence. Out-of-town relatives who attended the services were Misses Jennie and Gwendolyn Jones of Huron, Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Jones of Worthington, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jones and Eben Jones of Estelline.
