Description	:	John Kane, age 86, of Boone, died April 2, 2016, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. John Myron Kane was born in Stratford, Iowa, on August 2, 1929, the son of Carl and Bertha (Berglund) Kane. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1947. John served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. On April 6, 1958, John married Leah Cook in Laurens, Iowa. John worked as a postal clerk in the Ames Post Office, retiring in 1990. Before working in Ames, he was a postal clerk for Railway and Highway. John Myron Kane was born in Stratford, Iowa, on August 2, 1929, the son of Carl and Bertha (Berglund) Kane. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1947. John served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. On April 6, 1958, John married Leah Cook in Laurens, Iowa. John worked as a postal clerk in the Ames Post Office, retiring in 1990. Before working in Ames, he was a postal clerk for Railway and Highway. He was a longtime member of the American Legion #86, Boone Lions, and the Central Christian Church. John enjoyed watching sports and playing golf. He was an avid fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and ushered at ISU football games. John especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Gary, a brother Dale Kane, and a sister Cheryl Kane. John is survived by his wife Leah of Boone; a daughter Dana Marchant and husband Dennis of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and their children Mason, Madison, and Melanie; a sister-in-law Mary Lou Harrison and husband Traverce of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services are Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Central Christian Church in Boone with Rev. Dianna Clark officiating. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery, southeast of Stratford. Folding and presentation of the American flag will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. where the family will be present from 10 a.m. to the time of the service. In memory of John, memorials may be directed to the Central Christian Church.
