(died before the 1880 census was taken, probably in Fremont County, Iowa in January of 1880) and Mary Denson, both born around 1830, the former in Missouri, the latter in Ohio. Siblings included Rebecca Jane, Thomas Lincoln, Jesse James, Hannah (who married Simon Hansen and later a Mr. Cohen/Cone?), Jacob H., Marietta (probably died young and probable twin of Jacob), Frederick E., Charles F., and two others. His obituary, published in the Plattsmouth Journal on April 8, 1935, states he was survived by his widow, two married daughters, one brother, J. E. Denson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Cohen, of Omaha. Mention of his mother's death (Mrs. Mary Denson) was published in the Omaha Daily Bee on May 27, 1905, which states she died in Plattsmouth at the age of 76. The Plattsmouth Journal, May 8, 1913, Page 1: JACK DENSON DIES IN INSANE HOSPITAL Passed Away Last Evening and Funeral Will Occur in This City Sometime Tomorrow From Tuesday's Daily -- John R. Denson, for many years a resident of this city, died last evening at 8 o'clock at Lincoln, where he was taking treatment in the state hospital at that place, having been sent up from here several months ago as he was in such shape that it was impossible for him to be cared for here. Mr. Denson was born in Iowa, about fifty-six years ago, and came to this city in 1880, and has resided here since that time, having been engaged in railroad work until he suffered the loss of an arm through an accident, since which time he has been engaged in different lines of work in this city. He was a constable here for almost twenty years and was one of the familiar figures in this city and was known to almost everyone in the city. Mr. Denson leaves his wife and five children, as well as two sons by his first marriage, to mourn his death. The wife and Mrs. Clyde Jones departed this morning for Lincoln and they will return this evening with the body and the funeral will be held tomorrow, but the time and place had not been fully decided upon. The Plattsmouth Journal, May 8, 1913, Page 8: FUNERAL OF JOHN R. DENSON THIS AFTERNOON From Wednesday's Daily -- The funeral of the late John R. Denson was held this morning from the undertaking rooms of Streight & Streight on North Sixth street on account of the fact that the small children of Mr. Denson were confined to the home on Wintersteen hill with mumps, and it was impossible to have the services there. Rev. W. L. Austin, of the Methodist church, conducted the services both at the rooms and the grave and spoke comforting words to the sorrowing relatives and friends, who gathered for the service. The pall-bearers were selected from former friends and acquaintances and were as follows: M. E. Manspeaker, Frank Neumann, C. D. Quinton, Mr. Hanson, Nehawka; Alfred Edgerton and Henry Trout. The interment was made in the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery.
