He died Friday morning, August 12, 1904, after an illness lasting only a few days. It is claimed by his parents that he was frightened to death. A day or two before his death his mother sent him up town after some meat. He soon returned home, crying and screaming at the top of his voice, and throwing himself upon the floor said that two men were after him with knives and were going to cut him. He soon went into convulsions and continued in this condition until he died. The boys whom he claims did the scaring, deny the same and are much worked up over the thought that they should be accused of causing in any way the death of this boy, and, be that as it may, it certainly should serve as a lesson that it is not safe to trifle in this manner with the feeling of a child, and that in the early stages of life a child is very susceptible to ill treatment or misuse. At the time of his death Johnny was 7 years, 4 months and 14 day (sic) old. He was born in Chester and was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. George Strow (sic), they having three little girls besides the boy. The parents and all the city feel terribly wrought up with sadness over this death, and trust the like may never be repeated in our midst. The funeral occurred from the German Lutheran church in this city on Saturday, August 13, at three o'clock in the afternoon, and the remains were laid to rest in the Chester cemetery (sic).
